Electrical quote check

Is my electrician quote fair?

Electrical work should be compared on scope, specification and certification, not only the final number. Rewires, consumer units and fault-finding can differ substantially depending on access and the amount of remedial work required.

Is my electrician quote fair?
The short answer

What makes a quote fair?

A useful electrical quote should state the circuits or points covered, equipment specification, testing/certification, making good and any exclusions. A cheaper quote is not equivalent if it leaves those items out.

What the quote should make clear

✓ Number of circuits/points✓ Equipment specification✓ Testing and certification✓ Access/chasing✓ Making good✓ VAT status✓ Exclusions
Worth checking

Signs the total may be hard to compare

  • Testing or certification is not mentioned where it would normally be relevant.
  • The quote does not say how many points, circuits or fittings are included.
  • Consumer-unit or accessory specification is vague.
  • Making good after chasing or lifting floors is not addressed.
